Pair of large, bronze, petroleum lamps with medal patina, shaped as antique amphoras with two handles. Ornated with a bas-relief of a bacchanal procession. Red speckled marble bases.

The firm Barbedienne, famous company for 19th Century art bronzes was founded by Ferdinand Barbedienne in 1838, in association with Achille Collas, inventor and machinist.
His participations with the Expositions Universelles merited commissions from Napoleon III for several bronze furniture for his imperial residences, notably the castle at Compiègne. His workshop was located at rue de Lancry, Paris. After his death in 1892, with no children, he left his nephew Gustave Leblanc, a very prosperous business.
