Guido Zefferi. Composition, 1991, painting

Composition 1991

Painting on canvas, signed and dated towards lower right

Zefferi begins with a thick or watery and dense impasto saturated with color. His gesture is wide and quick. The texture Guido Zefferi tackles arises from the slow sedimentation and dehydration of the material into a thousand cracks, alchemy of colors, infiltration and fusion of pigments.
In the way that timing shapes and erodes the land while carrying fragile elements, Guido Zefferi clears and nourishes the pictorial matter in strokes, sprays, explosions, successive layers dripping and transparent screens. He punches and reworks thus bringing to the surface deep layers that play with veins, crevices, and craters in the texture. One finds marks in the magma as it makes way carefully for the framework, his painting architecture to express his basic vision.
Guido Zefferi as an archaeologist, excavates the material, studies tracks, goes to the bottom of what he sowed in generous layers; how to search his instincts, to identify them, organize and astonish. He uses the notion of accident to surprise and appropriate. Shapes are set for him. Then something unexpected arises, these shapes arise from the pictorial material.
