Daughter of Louis-Philippe, Duchess of Württemberg, Marie Christine of Orléans studied sculpture under David d'Angers. Having died quite young, she sculpted several busts and statues in which the most famous, Jeanne d'Arc en prière (Praying Joan of Arc) executed in marble in 1837, currently conserved at the Museum of Versailles.
She enjoyed great success as evident by the bronze example presented here.
